AIRDRIE, AB – Fitzsimmons Brewing has announced that will be closing its doors next month after five and a half years in business.
In a social media post last week, owner Cody Fitzsimmons said it was “now time to begin a new chapter”, and that the brewery and taproom would be closing for good on Saturday, April 29th. Several pre-closure events will be taking place in the meantime, including an official Finale celebration on Friday March 31st and Saturday April 1st.
In an interview with Airdrie Today, Fitzsimmons gave more details on the reasons behind the closure:
“It’s been five and a half good years – it just felt like it was coming to a natural conclusion. For me personally, one thing I developed during the pandemic was that I started doing mixed beverages and hard seltzers. That’s something I want to pursue going forward. Just with the way the company is going and everything else, it doesn’t make sense to keep this thing going. I’d rather pivot and go do my own thing.”
Fitzsimmons Brewing opened in November 2017 as the first brewery in Airdrie, a city north of Calgary with a population of approximately 70,000. Three other breweries – Balzac Craft Brewing, 948 Brewing, and Atlas Brewing – have opened in the city in subsequent years.
