OTTAWA, ON – Following the tradition of many politicians before them, Canada’s Foreign Minister John Baird and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry engaged in a friendly beer bet over the Canada vs. U.S. final of the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Ottawa on Tuesday night.

The bet was initiated via Twitter on Tuesday afternoon when Kerry offered to put a case of Sam Adams up against a case of Molson Canadian:

Baird took on the challenge, and added some beer from Beau’s All-Natural Brewing into the pot as well:

Following Canada’s 3-2 loss to the American team, Baird tweeted that he would make good on his word, and Kerry thanked him for it:

Baird presented the case of Canadian to Kerry today in London during the G8 Foreign Ministers Meeting, and said that the Beau’s beer would be delivered to the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa. It was subsequently revealed on Twitter that Beau’s has created custom labels for the bottles of Lug-Tread Lagered Ale that they will be delivering:
