CALGARY, AB – Big Rock Brewery has announced the release of the next installment in the Alchemist Edition series of limited edition one-off beers.
Ivan the Fermentable is a Kvass, an historic low-alcohol beer style from Eastern Europe that is traditionally brewed using leftover rye bread.
For Big Rock’s version, brewmaster Paul Gautreau commissioned 22 brewery employees to bake 155 loaves of rye bread with cinnamon and raisins. The loaves were sliced, toasted and added to the brew kettle, resulting in a 2.5% abv light and refreshing beer described as “a tasty Eastern European delicacy, speckled with wry winks of cinnamon and raisins.”
Big Rock Ivan The Fermentable was released last week in a limited run of 3000 x 650 ml bottles, available at select liquor stores in Alberta and the Big Rock retail store while supplies last.
